When in Montana late September, I had the pleasure of shooting the airy offices of the engineering firm DJ&A, whose new building is set to accommodate their growing firm in this quiet Missoula neighborhood.
The Cor-Ten steel Montana HQ for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers is a bright lantern of light, which stands as a symbol of electricity, and also serves to host office and meeting spaces. Nice work A&E!
In the Billings Montana suburb of Elder Grove, the new middle school designed by A&E is state of the art, and we were lucky enough to get to shoot it with students live in person and school in session this early fall, on a successful hybrid model.
In a first library shoot since the Covid shutdown, and in preparation for a anthology of regional libraries of the American South & West, I was lucky to venture forth to Billings, to the now 5 year old city library designed by architect Will Bruder. This super colorful, vibrant and imaginative library was unfortunately still partially cloistered due to the pandemic, with furniture stashed away to discourage lounging and long visits, the very thing it and most libraries were designed for!
Spokane City College got an awesome facelift, somewhat akin to an early Santa Monica Frank Gehry at first glance, with suspended metal screens at converging angles, brick double height volumes creating vertical interior spaces that punctuate long classroom hallways. Local architect NAC for the win!
